Choreographies: Photography by Olympe Tits

Category: Photography -

Olympe Tits is a photographer and dancer born in Marseille, France, currently based in Antwerp, Belgium. The aesthetics of contemporary dance helps her to achieve a different vision on photography. Her work is an ode to the physical reality and femininity. Despite the compelling power of each work she also exposes the limits of physicality. In addition to a universal instrument of self-discovery and identity, there is a focus on the odd feeling that palpability often entails.

Olympe says: “With my photographs, I want to indicate that every human body carries a story with it, in any space, at any age. A body never lies. Every small movement tells a story, even though people are often not aware of it. This alienation from our bodies is what I want to capture in my photographs. I see my pictures as choreographies. The focus is on the space, the gesture of the person, what they wear, the atmosphere. But instead of a choreography it becomes a still life.”.
