Carpet Drawing Series with Ball-Point Pens
Carpet n° 1 — 117x75cm / Black ball-point pen on paper.
The Carpets is a series of drawings by Jonathan Bréchignac. Made to fit the size of Muslim prayer rugs, these pieces are created with only ball-point pens, except for the smallest details. The dimension of time is essential in this work. It takes several months to create each artwork. Painstakingly detailed, they explore different ways and patterns to create an unique and motley whole with the simplest tool, following the doing more with the less precept.

They are inspired by different types of art, such as Oriental, Pre-columbian, Gothic, Japanese, native American, military camouflage and animal patterns. Together, they create a mix of civilizations and religions bringing forth a new meaning. The series also includes a website, as a digital and evolutionary extension of the drawings.
